About the event

We are delighted to announce that the CURATOR Masterclass, in collaboration with the Michael & Saniza Collection, will be hosting an exclusive Masterclass Art Talk at CVIEW: Penang, Singapore, Nanyang & Yong Mun Sen.
The talk traces the evolution of the Nanyang Style discourse that emerged after the 1970s, while also revisiting mid-century art developments in the context of postcolonial transitions. Our journey takes us even further back to explore the life and art of Yong Mun Sen (1896-1962), generating readings on Mun Sen’s art practices in the context of the close relations between Penang and Singapore, and highlighting cultural dimensions of the Nanyang region.

About the Lecturer:
Mr Kwok Kian Chow was Senior Curator (1992-1994) of the National Museum of Singapore, Director (1994-2009) of the Singapore Art Museum, and Director (2009-2011) and Senior Advisor (2011-2015) of the National Gallery Singapore. He was Associate Professor and headed the arts and…
